We've wound up here for a while... Point Vernon, a part of Hervey Bay, 3 hours north of Brisbane.

... we're about 5 streets back from the seafront, so not entirely dreadful!!

    Urangan harbour from the floatplane...

And to those people who reckon it gets cold in Australia, I present to you....

Fletts Road Landing in 2006, South Otago, NZ; just up the road about a mile from our farm - that's a frozen waterfall/cataract!! Christ, it was cold!!

Coldest day i've ever experienced in NZ was a summers day in Invercargill with a southerly ripping up out of the southern ocean. It took four tequila shots for me to even start to believe i would ever be warm again.

Oh, yeah - it gets chilly down there and that wind is just mega! We moved to North Canterbury, then to Gisborne, then to the UK and then back to Australia simply becasue we got tired of being cold; northern hemisphere winters are much more savage than anything I've ever experienced in NZ ... and I've had hot water bottles freeze overnight in the bedroom in Ophir, Central Otago!!

I love the South Island, Its a beautiful part of the world no doubt, but i really couldn't deal with the cold.
I've experienced the starting and dying cusps of a Northern European winter but never its peak, a fact of which I am extremely glad! When working in Finland i remarked to a colleague how cold i found their spring and he looked back at me and said "You should have been here for the winter, we had -35." Forget that!

This photo was just a Frost..... However, the Backyard Snow Pic was taken by my Daughter to show me what it was like. I had been snowed out and was stuck in Town after a 12 hour Night Shift, unable to get home.
