    hi all,
ill head to carbatec some time this week and pick up some bits but while i'm waiting ill make some humbucker routing templates, i can make the templates with out to much trouble but im a little unsure how deep to route the cavitys, i read some where 20mm does that sound about right? ill be using pick up rings to mount my humbuckers.

20 mm is the general rule of thumb.

I always measure the depth of the pup and height adjusters just to make sure

There is always a workaround for glitches, mistakes and other Guitar building gremlins.....

No worries DB, think i might of changed my mind and direct mount the pick ups.

Anyway my order came in on friday from stew-mac, i got a rosewood fretboard, truss rod, neck bushings, and a few other bits and bobs, here is the fretboard Click image for larger version.

on the weekend i finally had some spare time so i jumped at the chance to work on the guitar.
First i made sure the fret board was 12" radius which it was so i stuck it down to my bench and put 40 grit sand paper on top of it and started making a radius block, i went through the grits until 320 and this is what it looks like now.

After i made my radius block i started on the neck. Im following a youtube channel Flecher guitars, he has a step by step guide on how to build a guitar first up was to route the channel for the truss rod, Click image for larger version.

ID:	4888notice my freshly made radius block, came in real handy for the fret board glue up, after it was dry, i trimmed up the fret board edges, thicknessed the headstock to 14mm and put the radius from the fretboard to the headstock. Click image for larger version.

Farnzie well done that neck looks awesome. You really have done your homework. Are you putting dot markers on the fingerboard ? Should be done before you bang in the frets.
So it looks like a reverse headstock ?

haha, nah i haven't built a guitar before, infact i have never built anything from wood before, I'm a steel fabricator so i been working with hand tools, welders and machinery for 13 years.

I had an hour after work today so i installed the side dots, and i reshaped the trasition from fretboard to headstock, i gave it a bit more of a curve.
