    Cheers Pablo and Stan!
But bad news! Turns out the clear I was using wasn't... "suitable" for my choice of stain. Spoke to my Dad about it, turns out that the ink and the acrylic clear react badly with each other. What happens is the clear "appears" to cure, even after a week or two. But unfortunately it doesn't and it comes off with a light scratch of a nail
So.... now I have to sand the whole bloody thing back and start again :'(
However, after a little research, I found a gem: Minwax wipe-on poly. Everywhere I've read about it, and it receives an incredible amount of praise, and people have had awesome success with it. To be honest, I'm sick of spray cans and the runs associated with it, and this wipe-on is perfect and was only like $16 from Masters.
So now for the tedious task of rubbing it all down and starting from scratch... sigh...

That's a damn shame, it was looking so fab. I'm sure you will get it back. Wipe on poly should work well, but because you're rubbing it on there's a bigger chance of the colour bleeding. Make sure you leave the ink ample time to dry.

    Hey Mike.

I've used Minwax wipe-on poly on a number of projects and it works really well. One word of caution though. It does have an amber tint, so eventually it will discolour your blue. Use it in thin coats and stop as soon as you are happy with the finish. Bummer about the sand back man. We've all been there .

    Cheers,
    Gav.
