I'm also on the fence about my inlay idea as well. My favourite inlays by far are the PRS birds. But I'm reluctant to copy them because even though these builds are based off production models I'd like to put my own twist on them.

So I thought given the timbers are all Australian that maybe I'd try and incorporate something iconic Australian and do something like the PRS birds but with Kangaroo silhouettes. But I'm concerned that will look tacky as well.

I'm concerned that the kangaroo version of the PRS birds would look like a Qantas guitar. Although that is still fairly Aussie.

Coming from Goulburn I'm quite partial to the Big Merino. That or the Super Max, but it probably wouldn't work as an inlay...

Oh I like that idea. The only issue is that the stars of the southern cross would be quite small compared to the rest to be able to fit it in the space.

You could always have the Southern cross on the headstock, and 7 pointed stars on the fingerboard with the larger federation star as the 12th fret.

I have a Southern cross transfer on my main bass.

Bush hats with different numbers of corks hanging from it to show the fret number? Could be a challenge by the 17th fret though.
