Hi all, apologies for the lateness of my reply. Thanks for the kind words. PBG is undoubtedly the most supportive forum I've ever been a part of.
Hey, Bungee. The front (green) is a flame maple veneer, and the back is basswood. Normally basswood doesn't have such a beautiful, pronounced grain, but I got really lucky on this one and jagged myself a bit of flamed goodness.

Well... Like basically all the guitars I'm building, it is neither finished nor making noise. :P
The Wasp still has grounding issues (which are hopefully getting sorted Saturday), the IB hasn't had the fretboard done yet (but it does make noise, and sounds pretty good actually), and then there's this one that hasn't had anything done to it since the last update.
I've recently just moved house, so haven't really been dedicating much time to building. I've used up the last of my Tru-Oil as well, so I'm trying to decide whether to buy more and complete the whole guitar in it, or buy an aerosol to apply over the top, now that the oil has brought out the grain. Then all that's left to do is work out how I plan to finish the neck/headstock, glue it in and then wire it up.
So arguably, if I knuckle down, I could have it done a few weeks time.

Hey mate. Like any timber, you sand with the grain. On flame maple (or most other figured woods) the figuring can mislead you as to the direction of the grain. However, you sand from the neck to the heel (or bottom) of the guitar, e.g. sand perpendicular to the figuring. :-)
