The red arrow shows the point on the saddle you measure the scale length to, the place where the string just leaves the curve of the saddle slot. If you've measured to further back on the saddle, then that may explain why it's a bit further forwards that it probably should be.

Just remember that its the vibrating string length that defines the scale length, nothing else. So don't worry about anything but measuring between the flat side of the nut (else or the top of the zero fret if the guitar has one) and the point where the string leaves the saddle. That works for all guitars and all bridge types.

Yet another tip I got perusing this forum. So many good ideas.

Dan: It certainly helps if you have unused donor parts laying around to practice on.
i.e. a useless neck to practice refretting on.

    cheers, Mark.

Edit: When you think about it though, 12" necks would be common enough that you may be better off
just buying one off the ebay.

I think the usual for most of the PBG range is 12” or 14” radius, I know that the ex Washburn Neck in my FrankenWashie is 19”, as is Experiment #2.
i think the Ibanez is also about 14”, the G style ones I have I think are 12”

That’s a good thought Mark, there’d be a plethora on Alibaba.com as well

Hand crafting guitars, because Death Rays are expensive.

    Neck radius.
Painted the silver line down the centre.
Objective is to place the sanding block...
Keep sanding until the silver paint line disappears...

Probably time to colour in the neck and check the scale length.

    cheers, Mark.

I was wondering about the 12th fret double dot markers. I wasn't sure if the smaller radius would disturb them or not. You have answered my question. Although maybe going from a smaller radius to a larger might be a bit more radical. Would that even be possible?

Hi Dan. Well they are only plastic, not abalone or ivory.
I can't see why you couldn't use the same method to increase the radius.
12" is fairly flat anyway, but each to their own eh?

    cheers, Mark.
