Thanks Phrozin (and McCreed) for the cheap spray gun info.

What are your thoughts on a suitable compressor?

A while ago I was looking to downsize mine, and was considering something like THIS.
I haven't done a lot of research into the Lincoln brand, but the specs are what I'm looking for in a replacement.

My current unit is 2.5HP Belt Drive, 55L, 185L/min. Way more than I need...

    Thanks McCreed.

This Lincoln looks very similar to the picture of Simon B's compressor from his post at:

Similar, but slightly different specs. Hyundai have a very good reputation for their motors but I've not found any available in AUS. (Amazon, but only UK)
Lincoln make quite a wide range of tools, but again, I've not been able to find any info on this particular model compressor.

I've been looking today, as this has got me thinking again about making the change. We'll be moving some time in the near future and downsizing would be a good idea for me.

I may ring Sydney Tools tomorrow and have a chat with someone to get some more info. Hopefully I get someone that's not just interested in selling me something just because he's a salesman. (or salesperson )

I bit the bullet and picked one up today.
The specs meet the needs of the Star 0.8mm gun. So hopefully all will work well.

I had a bit of a play (no spraying though!) and it seemed to work well. I will need to learn how to use it correctly. Though I think I'm more worried about cleaning the gun after use.

BTW, the salesperson did try to sell me the best of the best (for unlimited budgets!) so as to meet all spraying needs. But I held firm.

Did you get the Lincoln, or something similar?

I just realised there are Sydney Tools stores are all over the country. (not just Sydney )

My only comments on the Lincoln is that the drain valve is slightly up from the bottom at an angle. My first compressor had that and it was a PITA tipping the compressor on its side to drain the water out. The Hyundai has it right at the bottom and it's easy to drain at the end of each session (not that there's ever a lot of water) in it.

And just make sure that the hose connection types match on the compressor, hose and gun all match. Otherwise you'll have to order more connectors before you can try it all out.

Don't forget the hose(s) and an inline filter as well, ideally one with a pressure regulator you can fit at the gun end. You need a hose long enough to keep the compressor well away from the spraying area.

That's good observation Simon! I hadn't noticed that... and I can see how it would definitely be a PITA. My present unit is on the bottom (as has every one I've ever used before). Seems like it should be a standard position. Lowest point and all...

I had a Lincoln LB3050 3HP 50L for a bit its a bloody good compressor it is actually an underrated pump said its fad was 260 but is more like 320-350, I sold it when I had the top of my hand take off as wasn't sure I could work a spray gun anymore, I have a triple cyl 17cfm 3.5hp 60lt FAD is 450, mainly because I use Iwata guns which have huge airflow and suck the guts out of the compressor

    Trevor
if you are not bothered too much about noise
this has really good spec's for the money

    https://sydneytools.com.au/product/l...air-compressor

the ones i wouldn't buy again is a super cheap auto belt drive because they reduced the receiver size to only 40lt they did that to raise it FAD which was pretty low, the problem is it's always on the pump and doesn't keep up, and the price their asking is too high for what you get. if you want 1 to just spray guitars with the gun in the link this will work just fine as has a decent FAD and 50lt receiver at a great price, I actually buy a lot of gear from Sydney tool

if anyone wants to upgrade to a compressor and gun i buy all my painting supplies from a crash repair supplier as if you buy in bulk it's way cheaper

here are some links to the guys I use
    https://www.autorepairsdirect.com.au/
    and here
    https://www.autolac.com.au/

I buy my candy paints from here I buy in bulk there in the UK but they have pretty decent delivery time and better quality products I buy in powder form theres a few guys on ebay but their pearls and candy concentrate is pretty average al have a lot of crap in there powders

if anyone wants to know how to paint just pm me also Sonic is switched on with painting with a gun and of cause Simon is a guru of everything guitar related
