Joint compound or drywall mud. Not plaster, but the kind with Gypsum.
I started the wet sanding and polishing today. I won't be posting more pictures for a bit, I want the final reveal to blow your minds as much as the guitar is mine while I'm polishing it. I'm also entering it in the Guitar of the Month contest if hit gets done by then, so I don't want to show all of my cards just yet.
I really appreciate the support during this build, there were times that I was really nervous about doing different things, and this forum was a huge help with my confidence.
Just wait until you guys see (and hear) this thing.
Great work MrMayhem75.
Me and my son want to complete the exact same project - he is a mad Foo Fighters fan as well and we are both waiting in anticipation to see your final product. Have you worked out how you are planning to do the stop tail as yet and what brand are you looking at using?
Does anyone know if Pitbull can predrill the holes and supply the stop tail like a custom order?

They will not pre-drill the stop tail holes, because of copy right concerns. I'm having a local Luthier drill those and the tuner holes on the head so that it all lines up correctly. We're just going to usea LP style tail, my luthier is ordering me a chrome one.
We get the neck back this week, the body is at the shop getting wired right now. I'd recommend buying the kit, it looks just like Dave's.
Well. I just got some bad news. I was planning on doing a hard tail on this kit, but apparently the soundboard under the outer shell isn't wide enough. I couldn't drill and plug a section either, the board underneath isn't wide enough to add any additional wood either. So, we'll be going with a trapeze style tail. I'm a bit disappointed, but now the search starts for a tailpiece that will compliment the look.
On to plan "C". I hate trapeze tails. Just too retro for me, and for this project. We're going to go with a wrap-around tail, like on a PRS style guitar. It will give us most of the look that we're after, and be a bit unique to Trini style guitars. Pretty excited to see how this thing turns out. I have the headstock drilled and ready to start the paint process on it. I also ordered a custom waterslide decal for the head, we made up our own design.
I was hoping to get done before September ended for the guitar of the month, but looks like we'll unveil the monster in October. Stay tuned.
