I think this may be because necks generally have finer grain, the larger the grain to the wood (e.g. Ash) the more troubles there seem to be with the DT top coat. This is one reason why I think inadequate grain filling is at least part of the problem (for me anyway).

    Looks great Blues.

And as far as imperfections go, embrace them as character. Its all part of building and owning a hand built guitar.

Ah, yes, that would explain it. I didn't do any grain fill. Something to take into consideration for the next build.

Good point Robin, the most satisfying part about the building so far has been the stuff that didn't work out, working out how to save it, and then having it work out in a completely unexpected way. Bit like life really.

    And speaking of home stretch...

A week's worth of deliveries was waiting at the post office.

And with the humidity high, additional coats were off so I did some mock ups.

I'm thinking gold hardware may be a better fit for this guitar.

    Hey Bluesy,
mock build looks great love the goodies you got for it.
Think I have to agree with Mick, the black hardware goes well with the dark spalt lines

Awesome, black is actually the cheapest option as that's the default hardware. Black it is. I think I'm just going outsource all my difficult decisions to the forum. So much easier. Thanks guys.

PS. I've just started a LP Jr build diary in the non pitbull gear section. I could really use some input into colour/finish.

Still waiting on the weather. Gave the body a going over with steel wool. The final coat is patchy in the places where I loaded the cloth up with finish, so I'm thinking this is a result of applying too much. The rest of the finish is looking and feeling pretty good after the steel wool. Except I found a couple of gifts...

Probably thanks to my mock build photo shoot. Looks like I've gouged it somehow. Any suggestions?

This one I'm not too concerned about. I find it hilarious that I've managed to scrape it in a perfect flame shape in line with the top - totally meant to do that.

Give the scrape a very gentle sand and see how you go (very gentle), I think it will blend in fine after that
