Hey Fretty, that headstock looks insane and must weigh half a ton.
The SGD-612 double neck SG on the 12 string headstock had alternate smaller tuners so the spacings between tuners was more than what you have. Could be worth ordering 3 a side smaller tuners. They look too close as you say

I think I've decided I will block 10 of the holes and re-drill them 27mm apart instead 24, 24.5 or 25mm apart as they are currently. This will also allow me to line them up better. But this means I will need to work out how I am going to hide the plugs. Veneer would probably look best. Or going for a solid finish on the headstock. I will need to investigate the options.

The weather is starting to warm up and things are starting to move on this beastie! I've taken a punt and tried my first burst. Just the back so far. Outback Sunset and Black Stump. The picture is just after popping the grain with some of the black stump and one base coat session. I'll just have to see how the colours settle as they dry.

It's been a while since I've posted any updates on here. I was going down the solid colour route for the headstock, but after a number of attempts the plugged holes were still showing, so I've abandoned that idea and I'm going to go with veneer. For those of you who have done this before, how do have you cut the veneer to avoid tearing?

I'm also deciding whether to persevere with the DT top coat which has been giving me some problems or sand the top coat off and look for a alternative solution.

I was hoping to get a lot done while I was off this week, but this weather is not useful for much at all, so I've done the wiring instead. Included is a photo of the test probe. If you haven't made yourself one of these yet it's worth it, especially if you have questionable soldering abilities (like me). (Wiring is based on Gibson's Explorer III circuit.)

With the Tonerider Surfaris installed. The top left switch selects neck &/or bridge pickup. The right switch selects left switch &/or middle pickup. Between these two switches you get every possible pickup combination, including all three and neck & bridge only - the two combinations standard Strat switching doesn't have.

Different wiring approach Fretty and I like it. With the veneeer depends a bit on the timber I suppose. I have only done veneers with maple and it can be a pain for splitting. I find art/stanley knife cuts cleanest but I always cut a bigger piece than headstock with one straight edge for the nut/fretboard end. Once glued and unclamped I turn headstock over and trim with artknife and then cleanup with wood files.
