They would look sweet esp if you have a rosewood fretboard

Can I suggest that you might want to try a light rounding off of the two corners on the thin edge of the trussrod cover to make it look less angular, as everything else on the headstock is also rounded? I know it's a bit more work and you'd have to touch up with the poly, but I think it would look a bit more upmarket. Just my opinion.

Yea reckon that would look better Simon, might even slightly curve in the 2 sides of the trc to match the headstock sides, cheers

Traced out the modded pickguard shape onto paper and cut it out. Placed it on the guitar to see what it will look like. Think it will be ok. very different.

Comments welcome before i cut it out for real

My thoughts as well. You've spent a lot of time on that veneer and now you're covering most of it up. You could simply loose the top wing, unless you now need some pickguard there to mount the pickup selector switch.

Yes Simon i will be mounting the 3 way selector switch at the top of the pickguard like on a Lez Paul, but i can reduce the size by cutting back the wings

Your axe but I would go naked after all the hard work doing the veneered top. Could end up with too many competing patterns on top that may detract rather than enhance. Sometimes less is more if you know what I mean?

Would love to do that but because the routed holes for the pickups were to big for the sort of pickups im mounting, it was easier to add a custom pickguard than to partially block the holes
