In the thread I linked DingoBass says as follows:

"IMHO spalts look best with either natural, golden yellow or red stains..
So Coolangatta Gold or Karijini Red would be my first choices.
No real need to pop the grain, it generally speaking won't have much effect and in some cases can kill off some of the subtle figuring going on. But thats just my opinion on it..."

There's some really nice figure going on in your top, it maybe best to tread lightly with it. I give way before the weight of DingoBass's expertise on this.

What tint in your timber mate did you use uppercaseH?
    That grain looks fantastic!

As Franken said, I wouldn't use Timbermate on the spalt personally, the veneer is extremely thin, and I'm talking about 0.5mm thick.
If you use timbermate, you will need to sand it back and there is a very real chance you could sand right through the thin veneer.

UppercaseH has a solid timer body with no veneer on it, which really helps bring out the grain in the timber with the Timbermate.
By all means, use it on the back of the guitar, it will work well there, but I would not use it on the thin veneer.

That's ebony timbermate on solid ash - not a veneer top.

I was advised against using timbermate on my maple veneered kit because of the risk of sanding through the veneer. I would probably choose another method to pop the grain on a veneer if I decide to do that in future (inks look like a good way to do it to me, but I've never tried), but with that said I think the timbermate on veneer could be done if you were very very careful. I'd be too worried about going through though.

As Frankenwashie said above, I'd definitely listen to DingoBass on this one.

    Hi Andy40,

Just read your thread start to finish. What an awesome job you have done. If mine can turn out half as good as yours i will be pumped.
Did i notice you put ebony timbermate on your spalt and carefully sanded it back?
