Was able to get two coats done today, then it started to drizzle a little.





Starting to get real shiny!

I was contemplating spraying some transparent brown or black around the edges, because the dyed burst is pretty uneven due to the grain of the maple not absorbing as much in some areas. This left me with a few dark areas on the upper horns and lower curves. But the cool thing is when viewed in different light, the brown burst can be visible, just that the dark patches make it look really uneven.

I figured out the best way was to live with it and appreciate the beauty of the figure. I don't want to mess it up since I've come a long way.

Thanks. Nope it's acrylic lacquer. Nitro is over priced and over rated.

Great job Simon. Love your faux binding looks awesome against the mahogany. btw if you order any more flame maple necks thru s/mac you can ask them to hand pick a very figured piece and they will do it for you. otherwise it can be a bit hit and miss cause they don't have a grading system in place.

No prob Simon this is the neck in question I asked if they could send me a photo of their neck blanks when I was ordering and they said no, but if I asked for the most figured piece available they would send it.
