    Interested to see how you go, Robin! Don't forget to put the iron back in case the missus needs it!

    Probably needs a refill as it would have run out of steam after 2 and a half hours use. Better refill it mate as you know what they say, 'Happy Wife, Happy Life'.

    @Woks
    Yeah I remember that fretless fingerboard of yours........ too beautiful to cover up for sure.

    2.5 hours is a bit extreme, but if I were to do another one, with what I have learnt, it would probably take closer to 1.5 I should think-

    I got a Rosewood fingerboard off DB. I am thinking now that Maple would have looked better with the rest of the bass, but meh, if it works I'll be happy.

    @Weirdy
    Thanks Scott.

    @Swanny and Wazza
    The steam only lasted about 45 min. so I had to do a couple of refills. The only time the iron gets used these days is to steam out dents in guitar bodies and removing fretboards lol.

    Cheers guys

    Hey Guys (and Gal), after a bit of advice.

    I would dearly love to have a 2 octave fingerboard, but that would mean the fingerboard will over-hang the heel of the neck by about 10 to 15 mm. I will have to consult a fret calculator to get the final length. I can't see that this will cause any structural or other problems, but just want to make sure..

    Any thoughts??

    thanks
    rob

    No problem with that Robin.
    The scale length will still remain as normal, you just end up with more room to slide around on the neck

    Thanks Phil, pressing down (when playing a note) on that small amount of overhang won't cause structural problems?

    Hey Rob,
    the fingerboard should have enough strength to overhang it 10 or 15mm past the heel, unless you have super strong fingers !

    Thanks Woks, that's what I figured. If it all goes belly up at least now I have someone else to blame. ;p

    Robin. I think you have inspired me! I think I'm going to buy just a cheap prebuilt bass and knock the frets out and the fret markers, and I just watched a vid where a guy uses a wood filler to fill the gaps back in! It's cheap and nasty way to do it, but I will get my frettless haha

    No problems there Robin... You would have to have superhuman strength to cause any damage

    I recall seeing a Guitar that had an extended fretboard that went to two and a half octaves.... Not sure how you could reach the high notes and you would have to have pencil thin fingers to play them.......
