Thanks Wokka.. Hindsight is a wonderful thing!
Glad I've rescued her.. She will now be known as Black beau..
I've just done a mock build on my ES1G which I received last week.. This time I'm keeping the door locked so no-one can pass comment on my colour choice.

Damo, nice save the black looks awesome. I have recently wrestled with the same FW stain. It's very strong unless diluted substantially...

    Thanks Andrew,
Yeah FW is full on. Played havoc with the binding too. Got a few hairline cracks that are irreparable now.

yeah Damo, unfortunately cracked binding the only fix is to replace it which is a massive job.

Yeah I looked into it and it looked like a massive job.. I figured I'd rather play the guitar with slightly "reliced" binding than wait another month doing binding, losing massive clumps of hair and filling my swear jar trying to teach myself how. Life she too short!

plus if you had to replace the binding in it's current state most likely you would have to refinish the top and sides.
How many times you already sanded back this build ?

3 times which is twice more than it needed and went through the cap in a couple of spots on the last sanding.. Not fun!
