Next step for this weekend was start spraying the gloss. Weather has been shocking all weekend in Sydney so quite humid, but I couldn't let this block me!
So when the showers stopped I hung the body from the umbrella:

That gave me a nice place to hang the guitar from outside, quite protected!
Because it was quite humid I only sprayed very thin coats, 2x on Sat and 2x today (Sunday). I left a lot of time between them.

Anyway, it changed the look of it and the body now has an interesting colour. Not quite the pure blue and black I had in mind, but I like it:

It looks like one of the wood pieces that makes the body didn't take the dye like the others... but I guess that will contribute to the 'handmade' feel!

So now I'm going to leave this cure a little bit, and I'm thinking I'll give it a nice wet sand at 800 or so this week so I can start spraying again next weekend. Hopefully the weather will be dryer and I'll be able to put a bit more gloss on this one!

Forgot to add that I put the first coat of Dingotone on the neck.
    I loved the smell!
It is so much nicer than the chemical stuff... I reckon the next build is going to be all Dingotone!

Anyway, body and neck are now nicely hanging side by side:

    Hey guys,
After leaving the body to cure for a week I sanded it back with some 800 to flatten it a bit.
Now that the surface is sealed, it really showed that my grain filling didn't work too well... I guess I had the same issue that Gavinturner mentioned, the timbermate getting removed by the wet dye.

Anyway, I'm going to see if I can fill this with gloss over the next weeks... but I'm thinking I actually like it with the grain showing too... we'll see

In the meantime I tried the scratchplate, bridge and jack plate on to see how it works colour wise and I'm pretty happy with the result:

I've bought gold knobs that I'm thinking may replace the plastic strat ones, so I went on to remove the strat knobs. I had read different ways of removing them with screwdrivers, credit card, etc.
But I actually had one of those windows packers near my workbench, 1.5mm thick and I gave it a try, worked pretty good:

And now with the gold knobs:

I think I like these, but I actually like the white ones too... anyway, we'll see once the neck is on, etc.

I'm going to have a fair bit of sanding to do before I continue next week as I rushed the last coat of the day and got some pretty bad runs...
Did someone say to be patient?...
Anyway, it's good I wasn't planning this one to be the last coat!

On the neck side, I started applying the first top coat of Dingotone on the neck.

Dingotone is so much nicer than spraying acrylic!
I've ordered my second build, an IB-5 bass (... I know, I haven't finished the first one...), and this time it's going to be a full Dingotone build!
Pretty keen to receive this next week!!!
