I'd say DB's DT mixes vary a little so your mix got a bit more orange dye than previous batches.
Give it time I think the colour will change with more coats and curing. If it's too orange after 2nd coat then I'd sand it back a bit and ask DB to send some white mix.
    Current Builds and status
scratch end grain pine tele - first clear coat on !
    JBA-4 - assembled - final tweaks
Telemonster double scale tele - finish tobacco burst on body and sand neck

    Completed builds
scratch oak.rose gum Jazzmaster - assembled needs setup
    MK-2 Mosrite - assembled - play in
Ash tele with Baritone neck - neck pup wiring tweaks and play in

Thanks Wokka, you were right! The colour has started to fade into a more golden finish now. It's still a bit on the orange side but I've come to like it.

    thanks!

    Hey Brett,
I've only just found this thread (completely missed it!), looks great so far!

Well my father brought home a new, untrained dog which proceeded to jump up, pull down and chew on the edge of the drying body. Pretty much ruined it and I'm fairly disheartened.

It was fun while it lasted, maybe next time!

Okay not as bad as I'd thought, but there are teeth marks too deep to sand out. Any ideas on how to fill punctures without it looking -too- terrible?

Can you post a picture (close up but in focus) of said teeth marks....the fix might be to put a soaking wet cloth over the teeth marks and then flatten out the cloth once the wood is good and wet, place an iron / steam iron over the top and use the heat from the iron to decompress the 'dent(ure)s' in the wood.
Once you have tried this we can then consider other steps but this method may alleviate some of your trauma.

+1 for the wet cloth and iron. Especially if they are dents... I've also heard of others using a soldering iron for a little more precision.

Hey Brett, sad news about the dog biting the body, as others have said please post some pics and we'll see if you can possibly iron out the holes/dents

Regardless of how deep the dog bite holes are, you can always fill them and continue the build with an opaque (painted) finish...it's not all lost.
