I tried some Dingotone on some offcuts of the rose gum to see how it looks. From left outback sunset, butterscotch, acacia (neck),karijni red and nullarbor ochre (the bottle ran out and didn't want to open a new bottle).
I'm thinking of outback sunset on the rose gum and acacia on the silky oak (centre strip)
Then possibly nullarbor ochre back and sides on the tassy oak.
There is a tiny strip of silky oak on the left piece at the front - with outback sunset

hey Barge, cheers man. Not sure on clear would love to try the behlen nitro. Thinking about getting a small spray gun and buying it in tins instead of spray cans.
Haven't got around to using the micro mesh pads but they look great. Will try it on my last scratch build original shape when I get some spare time !

yeah that's what DB uses a little spray gun.
Still unsure on the layout of this build whether I'll have a tremelo. Will probably have 2 humbuckers no pickguard.
I was lucky the silky oak centre strip was a bit thicker than the rose gum so I'm rounding off the centre strip

went for a visit to the DB man cave on Friday to start the scratch neck for this build. Scored some nice rock maple and a piece of jam wood for the fingerboard. First pic is how it looked after a few runs in the thicknesser and a wet rag. Myself and DB almost had a trouser fail moment !
Saturday shaped the headstock and roughly shaped the neck before I glued the fingerboard on.
The half a G type neck is the other half of a neck I chopped in half to make DB a clock out of a tele body he cracked

next step after clamping the fingerboard let the glue cure for a few hours then cleaned up the fingerboard sides and this is how it looks

few more pics.
Also this is the clock I'm making DB, is a beautiful tazzy blackwood tele with black double binding with a rock maple insert in the front. He was hammering in a piece of wood to fill in the control cavity and the body cracked in 2 places on the back and it was in his bin. I spotted it and saw a clock straight away !
I've since tidied up the rough cut on the neck !
