Thread: IB-5...first ever build

  1. #11
    Thanks mate.
yep definitely will measure up first and check the string spacings.
wonder y that is different??...just that particular bass or what? guess its not gonna make a whole load of difference given the A string will be basically in the middle of the stock anyway, or the middle of the fretboard.
I've got some 100% cotton old t-shirts that ive been using to brush off the dust from sanding. Might give these a wash and give them a go.
I'll kyp...im fired up to do this thang!

looking at using a set of five hipshot gold tuning pegs. should fit fine if they are 10mm. They look sweet!

    sounds good Ruben.
I think 3 tuners on the bass side look fine and work fine.
Nice avatar pic too looks like a nice cap on the bass.
Look forward to staining, what colours you going, dark brown on the cap ?

Here's an option for you Hipshot individual bass string bridges . Not my favourite fiddly to fit . But will give a variety of string spacings

wow they are expensive KB, 5 individual saddles would cost $175 plus postage.
Think I'd rather lash out for a Babicz full contact bridge or Gotoh bridge

Yeah thos hipshot ones would be awesome but a bit on the pricey side. Wokka, I was looking at a Babicz bridge and some economy gold tuning pegs...plus I can get some strap pegs from the same place in gold...all coming to $140 which isn't too bad (includes postage).
@stan...thanks mate im sure I will

As im aiming to get the first stain coat on tonight, I was wondering what advice people could give as to how to keep the thing after its stained. Can I just leave it hanging up like in the picture?? Will the stain run off or will it b ok?

I've attached a bit of hardwood to make it easier when i'm trying to stain it. The hardwood is just screwed on through the holes in the body which the neck will bolt on thru.
