On another note, now that I know I should be able to turn this beastie into a bit of a player, I'm thinking of swapping out the electrics in it. So, with that in mind, does anyone have any suggestions of pups that will have good clarity, good tonal range, and won't blow the bank (for parts or postage)?

Nice! I haven't seen a bad thing said about ToneRiders anywhere. In fact, I'm leaning towards a set myself, probably the AC4s. $110-$120 for a set of pups that get glowing reviews everywhere seems a bargain to me.
