Well I lucked into a handful of 10 mm dowels.

I've also decided to to it all proper like, and put in the dowel, cut it near flush then sand it flat and re-finish the head stock.

There is no rush to get it done - after all is said and done I can't play worth a cracker and this was all about the fun of the build.
(Which despite the moments of doubt and frustration I am enjoying).

As for the Bad Monkey pedal - $55 at JB Hi-Fi, I gonna get me one!

While I hear what you say Barge, and this one has had its issues, the fact is that for $160 or thereabouts, delivered, the quality is pretty good.

I think the strat is like $125. I've spent more than that on lunch, and you get to keep the guitar...

I would add however, that a set of jigs for drilling the headstocks would go a long way...

$125 on lunch, holy moly!! Be sure to give me the name of that joint so I can avoid it!!

Seriously though, I'm hearing what you're saying, and a lot of guys just putting a kit together probably wouldn't even notice. But if you're one of those who like to sweat the details (as you obviously are), something like tuner holes in the wrong spots can get a little old when it happens over and over again.
We're not talking about trying to split atoms here, I don't reckon there's any excuse for trying to get a few holes drilled in the right place.
Is it really that much to ask??
