get sanding on the body, down to about 320 grit.
Any finer and it hinders absorption a bit. Don't sand the top cap at all or only a very small amount, because they are very thin and you don't want to go through it to the timber underneath.
Get rid of any rough spots and glue spots etc.
You could wipe over the guitar with a damp cloth prior to sanding , this will help highlight any glue issues and give you a good look at the figure in the top cap

Thanks stan, was able to use your advice to start some sanding, nothing fancy. On another note I decided to read through some build diaries on the LP1 kits... Lucky for me I found pests.. And read ALL 31 God damn pages of that, after sifting through what seemed endless pages about the footy and multiple other topics, I found some really useful information hahah!

Ah yes, my first build...... Surprised at how there were actually posts that were relevant!
I'm still planning to redo the finish on it, I wasn't happy with my failed burst in the end....

I think the actual guitar building stuff in Pests thread was about 3 pages...

For some things, some times, it's the same time all over the world, and I think we know what time that is...

    Hey Kurt,
there are plenty of other LP build threads with useful information. Pest's build diary was thread jacked to the max, I am guilty of some of it !
That mark below the neck pup cavity looks like glue. Could have been left when the cap was glued on. Try and lightly sand it but you may have to incorporate this in the finish. The pup ring will cover a bit of it.
What colour you going was it black/green ? Could make a bit of a feature

Yeah I'd advise to not really go through that thread unless you want to sit for an hour to find what you need...
To me it looks like a glue spot, try a wire brush to get it out!

Kurt, don't use a wire brush on the cap as Pest suggested, good chance you will rip through it, remember the caps are only about 0.6mm thick
