so Jeff trying to work out the new configuration of pots/switch and output jack, have you moved the pup switch closer to the neck and now the output jack will be on the top with maybe 1 volume and another switch on lower horn to split the pup coils ?
What colour is this going to be and will it be solid paint to cover the plugged holes ?

Yeah Wok good eye on the configuration, right now I've got it as follows: Upper horn still got the pickup selector, lower horn master volume, output jack is moving to the top just cause I don't like having the jack stick out and catch on stuff. Then as far as the tone and volume controls they will be also on the face, I just haven't drilled the holes for them. Im still thinking this part through as to how many controls I want and if I can combine some, perhaps a master tone instead of two separate ones. I generally just leave the tone all the way on all the time anyways!
Im planning on a solid flat black, so with taking off the extra upper switch and the color instead of a White Falcon it is more in line with the Tim Armstrong. So last night I taped off the binding (still wondering how they do that in the factory) and today was able to prime it.

sounds good Jeff, must have been hard work taping off the binding and the thin part on the top face. I don't see the point in a master volume plus another volume but thats up to you. It will be a long reach to the lower horn to the master volume. If you don't use the tone control much no point having 2 tone pots. I'd just drill a hole for a master tone.
When you get to the wiring stage the forum wiring guru Weirdbits may be able to knock up a wiring diagram for you. He can possibly give you the option for 2 different capacitors for the tone so you have the option.
Keen to see some pics even if its primer !

    Question GR-SF1 Kit Tremolo query

Hi all. I'm new here but not a beginner. I've been making solid bodies for a few years and decided it was time to try my hand at an arch top after stumbling across a battered old 1959 Maton Premier E.G. 45A in an op shop for 5 bucks. Its electrics (original) still worked so I figured it was worth having a go at bringing it back to life. It plays ok but is a real finger killer with an action you could ride a skateboard under at f12. Anyway the Old Girl is hanging on the wall until i can get my head around the archtop.
I went for the GR-1SF kit - for better or worse.
I did a dry fit to make sure it was all there and fit properly. It did and it did!
One thing that has me baffled is the Bigsby Style Tremolo. The spring seems to be twice the length required at 30mm long and the trem arm sits about 120mm above the body top with both E strings tuned to concert. The spring doesn't seat squarely until I force the arm down much closer to the top. Will it end up lower when all strings are attached and tuned to concert less a semi-tone?
Is this how its supposed to be or have I been sent a light truck suspension spring???
Should I get the spring cut?
    photo uploads fail??

Anyone with some ideas would be great.
    Cheers
    Mike
PS. I looked up the parts list for the Bigsby B7 which the supplied Bigsby type is supposed to be modelled on and the there are two spring sizes shown.
    1. 7/8th" (22mm)
    2. 1" (25.4mm)
The spring supplied in the kit is 30mm

Here is the guitar in the workshop
I used Dupli-Color automotive primer. The color was called "hot rod black". After one coat I gave it a light sand with 800 grit and I really liked the look that it had already. Im going to give it more coats to even it out and get rid of the little grain thats showing thru. But I gotta go buy more at the next town since they only had one can in the local auto parts store http://www.buildyourownguitar.com.au...cons/icon9.png

Pimp'n me out again Wokks, next you'll have me working street corners. The build is looking great Jeff, it'll be interesting to see one done in black.

If you wanted to try something a little different with the wiring using 3 pots and a switch you could try: Master Volume, No-Load Master Tone, 3-way pup selector switch, and pup balance pot. The no-load pot takes the tone control out of the circuit when it's on 10. The balance pot gives 100% vol for both pups at the centre detent, then keeps one at 100% and decreases the other when turned one way or the other, but can be wired with the pup selector so that only the selected pickup(s) part of the balance pot is in the circuit. So, with only the neck pup selected only the neck half of the balance pot is in the circuit etc. Just an idea.
    Scott.

Hey Wierdbits that sound pretty interesting. Does that mean that the balance pot is only used at the middle dent of the pickup selector? I like the sound of it but I'm having a hard time getting my head around it.

Also what do you think of this circuit?
