I wonder if you could cut some more of your veneer to match the cavity cut-outs/routs (and line up with the flame), stain it the same as the top, then attach it to the back of a clear pickguard. If you could make that work, wow...

Scott.
awesome idea Weirdy, as usual. Pabs could cut a clear pickguard.
Doubt the veneer would stick to the top of the pickguard

Now you've got me thinking! All you need to do is replicate the modified pickguard (in my concept pic) in clear, then like you say lay it over matched/stained veneer. How to attach though? I don't think gluing would work. You'd almost have to do a 3 ply, so you'd have acrylic backing/veneer/clear acrylic. Good stuff Weirdy!
We'll have to get Pab's 2 cents worth and see what he reckons.
or another option Barge would be to maybe glue the veneer to some 3mm marine ply and cut your own pickguard with that, so the veneer is ontop of the pickguard, wouldn't need a 3 ply method as you thought of.
Would need quite a few clear coats on it to protect it from pick and abuse from your hand strumming it

I think Wokka has the right idea. Gluing veneer to acrylic is gonna be a bitch, not impossible but not fun. Bubbles in the glue would be the killer. Maybe if you had access to a vacuum pump.

Yep, alright I can dig on that. I have some 1.5mm clear I can use to keep the thickness to a minimum.

I reckon that's possible Barge, see what Pablo says. The pickguard maybe about 4mm thick but no biggy
