yeah you will need the larger router plate for this job with the huge control/pup cavity. The posty has been earning his money with 4 deliveries in a week to Mr Barge ?
Page 14 holy carp, I reckon you are on track to beat the Pest's record length build diary of about 23 odd pages haha

This is an awesome build, I've been following it since the beginning as I'm too timid to start chopping up a brand new guitar, so I've been doing it vicariously! Looking great so far, I'm keen to see how it comes out

By the way, who is this Pest everyone keeps mentioning?

Hey Ian, the Pest is username Kelooe, he hasn't been on for a while, a fairly young builder from outer Melbourne. He used to ask lots of questions and be a general pest and ask for more supplies from Ads and DB ! It's not serious, just a bit of fun

Haha fair enough, I figured it was tongue in cheek by the way he was spoken about, and nothing wrong with asking questions, I have to say you guys are very open with sharing information, there don't seem to be too many secrets around here

Hacking pieces off brand new kits isn't for everyone and I'm sure there's a few out there who would cringe at the thought.
I guess it comes down to the level of personal satisfaction each person takes from a build, and what they need to do to achieve that satisfaction.
I take pleasure from trying new things, pushing my abilities and drawing inspiration from those on here that are much more skilled than myself.
But mainly it's just about having fun:-)

@Wokka, we just need the postie to drop off the bridge and a scratchplate now and that should be it (I didn't mention I got some nice chrome knurled knobs yesterday too).
Anyway Pablo's new base for the router worked and absolute treat, you da man bro!!
Binding channel came out really clean (thankfully)
NOTE: 2nd pic middle, I had to do the "elbow cut"section by hand using a scalpel.
    Binding went on pretty smoothly.

wow nice job on the binding Barge, that looks fantastic, you are motoring along, do you have a full time job ? wonder where you find the time.
I can't wait to hack up one of these ST-1M kits and come up with a new shape, you have inspired me Barge !

So have you ordered a precut shape pickguard or have to cut the shape around the lower horn ?

Cheers Wokks, I can almost breath easy now the hard stuffs done (touch wood) and it's great to hear I've got you thinking about something like this, can't wait to see what you come up with;-)
To answer your question, my missus re-joined the workforce a couple of years back so I had to quit shearing, and I'm at home fulltime with the kids. It couldn't be anymore perfect for building guitars (except for the no money thing that is hehe).
Consequently I've had to sell a lot of cherished gear to fund this habit so far and I'm slowly running out:-(
The pickguard is just a standard Strat shape in pearloid which will get a bit of a facelift.
