    cheers for the comments fellas.
@ Tony I've put Entwistle Dark star pups in and early days they sound great. Pretty high resistance neck pup is about 15.2k and bridge almost 15.5k
Got the wiring done yesterday and strung up. Neck needs some truss rod adjustment and need to sort out bridge height and nut height but sounds pretty good with no setup.
Bought some Meguiars polish and its paid off.
Luckily I checked the scale length before I glued the neck, had to cut about 5mm off the neck heel and fingerboard. You can imagine how nervous I was cutting a finished neck on the bandsaw. The nut to 12th fret is 313mm and out of the box with the saddle wound forward the low E string was about 322mm, so the heel had to be shortened. I have about 3mm of fingerboard past the 22nd fret - close one !

Ok Wokks, replying here as requested.

Black should be your hot and green is your ground, as per this. But, having them reversed wouldn't cause the volume issue. You can check the polarity of the pickup using your multimeter, as shown in this video.

I suspect the volume issue could be the ground lug on the volume pot, just double-check it's got a good connection to ground. Post some pics if you can't find the issue.
    Scott.
