Sheesh - sounds like I'd better make this impressive. Anyway after some serious attacks on the cap to see if I could coax even the smallest amount of the colour in, applying penetroil, more stain, more scratching with a brush, Gav gave me the sad news. It was not going to work.

Dejected and a little disheartened, I sadly gave the body one last sand before thinking - what to do - sand the cap off and go the whole 'hog? (sorry opportunity too good to miss). Do I prepare to go solid colour - a Gold Top Gav suggested. I couldn't quite face it.

Then. Gav dropped the bomb. He did have a couple of lotions and potions at the back of his cupboard. Stuff he had never used. Stuff he was worried would get rid of the flames, but could give me a half decent look. Maybe not fabulous, but might hide the scar a little.

He pulls out a bottle of red StewMac Solid Colour stain.

Try this, pouring some into a small shot glass.

A quick test showed that it worked. The stain went onto the guitar and gave a cover like never before. The glue spot dissapeared in a flash. Moving on I moved to more glue - could this be? Gav had discovered then fountain of unglue! The vision had been for a black to red burst with some flame in the background - he passed over the black solid colour. I applied it to the edges. Smearing it into the centre using gentle swirls, a burst started to show. How could this happen - an ugly duckling turned into this...

Wow amazing save on that. Looks amazing now and looking at the earlier pics thought you were doomed but it has come up a treat.
More proof that there is always a workaround.
Hopefully no more challenges ahead and you can enjoy the rest ofthe build.

    Save of the century!

As stated below, there is always a workaround.

excellent save Gavmiester and Bman, so the lotion you put on before the colortone is penetroil available from Masters ? I'll be buying a keg size bottle for all the future kits with glue all over the cap !
Any idea what this lotion will do to existing coats of stain, will it remove the stain ? not too worried if it does, just means more staining coats.
    Is this the product ?
