Looks fantastic Gav! Just wondering how you get such a nice even finish? You mentioned 'cutting back' the stain on the first page. What did you mean by that? Anyway looks amazing can't wait to hear those new pups you got too!
One of the ways to get the grain to look really good is to use a dark colour to stain the wood. Once the application has dried you then use sand paper to effectively cut (the wood fibres) back. This is what we mean but cutting back, and then of course you hear comments like "that grain really pops". Gav, how do you get the grain to pop on a spalted cap? Can't really sand much or it will disappear. Or does it take care of itself?

lawry, you have to be very careful with the caps as they are very thin. However, with the spalty it does kinda take care of itself. Shows up best if you use a lighter colour on the cap./<\\/p>[]<\\/p>/Quote from lawry on January 12, 2014, 08:00

Thanks Gav. I certainly can see what you mean about 'thin'. I have ordered Burning Sun for the spalted maple, would you consider that a 'lighter colour' or do I need to dilute that? At least initially.
Burning sun will be perfect!
Although this is a bolt on I have both glued and bolted it on.
I bought a special bridge for this guitar and was happily attaching the neck when my pedantic attention to detail was drawn to check the scale length. Oh no!!!!!! Bridge saddles are no where near where the saddles would have been on the original bridge....had to take 10mm more of a neck pocket to get it right! That was close!
Good catch Gav, just in the nick of time. A very classy looking Tele.
