My dad was sure that every guitar I wanted was to "make more noise." With my own kids the greatest joy has been when they begin to develop tastes I like...so I definitely like your approach to parenting.
On the color, it sounds like my computer is recreating it accurately. I would say a sort of faded "coral" color. Common here in Miami ;-)
With regard to the cap there is no "right" answer. Where I have ended up is to test at least 3 cap values: .22, .33., and .47 to see what works best. It is as much about how the tone control works as about how it sounds. Last guitar ended up with a .33.
On a strat style guitar, I put the cap under the jack plate. That way I only need to remove two screws to change the cap ;-)
