Just be aware that the Tru-Oil may yellow a bit. It can have a tendency to shift blues to greens. Not a problem if you like the greens!

I think it's a good idea to avoid *actual* steel wool, which can leave metal filings. That can cause two common problems, only one of which applies in your case. The one that does not apply is that they can rust when exposed to water based finishes. The one that does apply is that they are can eventually migrate to the pickups. I think most folks either use conventional sandpaper or sanding pads (eg like the 3M type)

That's great! If it was easy to get you may want to post the brand. Always good to know the locally available products that work well. WA is the postal code of my home state of Washington in the US. I don't think there's a Bunbury there, so I am guessing you are in Western Australia... In any case your alu tape will be local somewhere! ;-)

This colour looks very similar to one of my STA-1 builds. Check out https://www.buildyourownguitar.com.a...l=1#post225886.

My one was blue U-beaut water-based dye, finished with tru-oil coats. I expected the tru-oil to change the colour, but it was not a big change!

    Hi Trevor, that's really awesome.

My colour came from a mix of Tru Oil and Mixol, about 13 coats of tinted oil, and then another 15 of straight Tru Oil over the top.

Wow! That came out great. You have to be happy with that blue stain!...or I guess it's a tint. In whatever case it came out really well.

One thing to check with the alu tape is to stick two pieces together so that they overlap, and then check for continuity between the two pieces.

I hit the overlaps in the tape with a dab of solder and also wire it back to the common ground on the back of a pot

That does look nice, I used black hardware on my ST build but it's canary yellow (like my late father in laws PJs back in 1974 )
