We went and saw a show last night "The Beach Boys Experience" a bunch of guys & girl from Brisbane, it was a roughly 2 hour show with an intermission, 1st half the sound was very ordinary the mics were unbalanced and piercing, I thought "not bad for an average pub cover band".

The sound guy must have had his bum kicked during the break because the balance was much better and the shrill highs tamed.

We were sitting one row behind the sound & lighting desk and the EQ curve on the voices was interesting and the compressors were spiking into the red, the console looked like an Allen & Heath C3500
you sure about that headstock if you dowel it it will limit you to a paint finish and doing a veneer Paul you very 1st finish will be you best but check the binding for cracks both mine had them which put the fox in the chicken coop , if you go with a stain or dye try keep it away from the binding both mine looked good until the stain and dye showed them up quite badly, maybe use a 6mm straight line vinyl tape on it will save you alot of hassle

Thanks for the advice, I do have a roll of pin striping tape and will be taking great care around the bindings.

As for the headstock, I am still leaning in this direction to make it definitely not a Lester now or any time in the future.

There has been little progress as I was waiting for a couple of bone nuts to turn up from PBG, No.7 & ST-1 and also had a family holiday up to Daydream Island to celebrate four birthdays, wife 70, daughter and son in law both 40 and one of the grandsons 16 and this happened

Sometimes a surprise happens, last week the family had an island escape to celebrate some birthdays and while sitting around the pool having a beer one of our songs came on the sound system at the bar.

We were on Daydream Island in the Whitsundays a long way from home and people we knew and the guys behind the bar were European backpackers playing their Spotify playlist.

The song was Fly Pretty Little Bird from our second album

Hard to believe that after so much time I have finally done something that is slightly more than nothing.

Removed the plastic nut and cleaned up the bed, and doweled the headstock.

No pics but it did happen.

Before I go any further with it, has anyone found issues with the neck angle, I've had to shim my ST & TL kits which was easy enough post build but a set neck is a whole different ballgame

I have only done one set neck in this style and did not have any issue. I do not recall any issues coming up on the forum. I would do some testing before glueing though.

I had one where the angle was ok, but the pocket had been cut slightly too deep for the neck heel to seat fully.

If you’re going to be upgrading the bridge etc, test with the new hardware in place before making any decisions, then test again and again and…. You may also want a nut to sit in place so you can clamp the neck in and run a line down over the saddles to test the angle.
    Scott.
