So here's the story of my "IB-1" guitar kit.
I wanted a 24 fret floyd rose equipped guitar for a long time and finally decided to pull the trigger on this kit.
My first impressions were wow! I love this guitar kit. The neck looked incredible!
After test fitting the body/neck I started sanding... A LOT, starting with 80 grit and gradually working my way up until 1500 (I know it's excessive before staining 😆![]()
Following that it was staining, originally I wanted red but decided I have too many red guitars (some seen in the pics) and wanted something different so blue with a dark edge it was.
After this it was fine sanding and starting with the wipe on polyurethane, coat after coat with nice wet sanding in between... so hard to leave it to dry in between coats and sands lol
Then the standard polishing, copper shielding and assembly... where the headaches started to unfold.
I read a warning about being familiar with Floyd style bridges before attempting this kit... but man... I didn't expect the metal to bend and threads to break etc... so I upgraded the bridge to a gotoh bridge and nut... phenomenal! Holds tune now! But the action is terrible...
I had buzzing with appropriate relief until the action was approximately 3-4mm ridiculously high...
I then worked the frets before finally coming to the conclusion I should add a "fret fall" from the 12th fret on...
First attempt at this and now the action is at 1.3mm with the ability to go lower if I really wanted! Finally happy!
Fast forward a month of testing and playing getting to know her and she rips!!! My favorite guitar by miles and my favorite guitar build so far!!
