Build another guitar sure why not

Thought I’d try a kit from an unnamed overseas source. Not the best idea I ever had, centre join of top veneer is not good so I might have to paint this one. Thinking charcoal hammer tone - I’ve used it on other project’s successfully. Once again I’m sure the ideas will change(if I don’t rush it that is). The rest of the kit seems ok so here’s hoping.

    That split in the veneer...

I wonder if you could make a "feature" of it..... run a line along the centre of the guitar?

You'd need a good router bit and a piece of interesting wood to contrast the body though....

The centre join line may be all glue and may not take any stain. You may be able to carefully cut out (with a craft knife) the glue and replace it with a wood filler like Timbermate! Or maybe some automotive pin stripes could cover it up!

Maybe worth trying other options if your fall back is a solid colour!
    PitBull Builds: FVB-4, LP-1SS, FBM-1, AG-2, TB-4, SSCM-1, TLA-1,TL-1TB, STA-1HT, DSCM-1 Truckster, ST-1, STA-1, MBM-1, MBM custom, GHR-1 (Resonator), FH-5V (Acoustic).

The little voices in my head keep telling me "build more guitars"

Thanks guys yeah I was thinking along similar lines, Yamaha can make a revstar with stripes so why can’t I. Like the idea of routing out the centre line and putting in something different - coloured resin comes to mind oh the options are endless. Time to make a jig ( again)

    Cheers

I always hold open the possibility of a solid color. My translucent finishes are not always successful. Particularly over veneer. That said, one of my favorite builds so far has a solid color top and translucent sides and back.

Agreed about the Revstars, a guitar with "rev" in the name should at least consider a racing stripe. There are other reasons to look at the Revstar for inspiration IMHO. A cool, unique take on sunburst (sunset?), and blends of solid and translucent finishes.

Been pondering veneer racing stripes just to satisfy fenders seemly obsession with them . What’s everyone’s experience with glue for veneer? I’ve used titebond original for thin stuff before with not so good results. I see they have a liquid hide glue - thoughts pls

If it was me I would fill the bad part of the veneer with a maple wood filler lightly sand it down then I would spray the front of the body with a candy and I would just stain or dye the back and sides as normal I would use a 6mm fine line tape up the binding that's the seperating line I would dye or stain the back and sides 1st and then mask up the back and sides and then I would use the candy on the front once that drys then I would clear the whole body, I would use a spray gun if you don't have 1 used the paint below I've used it before then use a tin of 2k clear over the whole bady, why use a candy it won't sink into the maple veneer so the filler won't stand out you'll have a nice translucent finish with that tiger strip veneer will look very nice

I pick up how do it I purchased an LTD FM650 which was see though red, you can even do the back and front just use 6mm fineline tape and sanding sealer on the back and sides to fill the grain not required on a basswood you'll need 2 cans of candy once you painted the back and front remove the fineline tape off and clear it let the candy dryovernight

I understand it might scare you but you will end up with a beautiful looking guitar if you mess it up use a solid color but you won't need to and its a to nice to paint it with a solid colour

Thats how I would do it

Thanks for all the good ideas Phrozin, I’ve used glitter finger nail polish to cover the seam, edged it with black stripes - reasonably happy with results. Will stain back and neck black. Still mixing satins and wondering what colour will look good on the front. Will post pics soon
