I always hold open the possibility of a solid color. My translucent finishes are not always successful. Particularly over veneer. That said, one of my favorite builds so far has a solid color top and translucent sides and back.

Agreed about the Revstars, a guitar with "rev" in the name should at least consider a racing stripe. There are other reasons to look at the Revstar for inspiration IMHO. A cool, unique take on sunburst (sunset?), and blends of solid and translucent finishes.
