This is a great hobby where you can combine your building skills with your love of guitars.

I have done a number of kit builds, and a few semi-scratch (I have not tried making necks yet!). I have been doing some scratch tele style guitars and basses over the last year and a bit (there is a link in my signature). If you have the building equipment a scratch build is very do-able. There is still quite a lot of specialized guitar equipment you will need.
