The Toneriders will be the same. But it may be there’s more of a difference with the kits between the JB and JBA apart from the ash body.

Whatever pickups you get, it may be wise to at least print out a 1:1 scale plan of the pickup, cut it out and check it fits.

Yes that's a great idea, see if I can get some print out models and do a general check over, thanks again.

    1+

I have needed to mod pickguards a bit on three builds so far. I've had to mod pickup cavities a few times as well. Probably goes without saying that it's a good idea to make all decisions about pickguards, pickups bridges, etc. before any finish goes on.

With regard to the bridge on my paulownia bass, Simon pretty much captured it. When I got my first precision, at age 19, the first thing I did was take off the ashtray covers. We've gotten used to seeing Fender bases that way, but the originals had even more chrome near the bridge, and also looked like they sat a bit further back.

+ 1 for the paulownia bass looking great. It has a nice, subtle, grain pattern. It reminds me of the basswood grain.

ID:	44643[ATTACH=CONFIG]44644[/ATTACH Ebonizing effect to the back of the neck, i should have taken some pictures but was way laid and forgot till i had the fist clear coat on. Looked very chalky once the ebonizing dried off, which made me apprehensive of going ahead with it, but I think it turned out fine. 2 coats of satin clear with 1200 grit wet and dry between coats, I will be applying 2 more coats of satin clear with 1200 grit wet and dry between coats. Tuner face head stock has had 3 light coats of enamel gloss black, I was very careful here with the taping process, used Frog tape so to keep a straight clean edge and took the edge over to leave a 1mm overhang so the paint would travel over the edge, a little annoying when the gloss seemed to stay flat and dry looking like chalk board paint up along the truss rod area between the fret board edge, not sure what was going on there, I was sure to clean everything off before spraying on the gloss, but again a bit of wet and dry and another coat has almost got rid of that problem, will be reviewing that tomorrow. There is a bit of glitching, at first some bubbling, which annoyed me but a sand off with 1200 grit after it dried then another coat seemed to clear it up. I will be wet and dry sanding and re taping before a further 3 light coats are applied. The body color should prove interesting, Still sanding and refining before any Indian ink is applied. So far, so good.

The lp kit came with some issues too but i didnt see it as a problem more as a challenge to overcome and thats what i did, they arent really expensive kits and its good for your mind to problem solve things if it was a dire unfixable issue id look at a return.
Good luck shame you couldnt find a workshop somewhere that they would let you use there drill press? Give em some cans of beer.

ID:	44677 Bit the bullet and went for the tone riders, super fast delivery on these puppies, can't believe it. As pointed out the bridge pocket and the pickguard will need a little trim adjusting to fit them.
