The pickups are not the same. One (your #2 I think) is bigger than the other. The bigger one is the bridge pup and will go into the route B. It is bigger to account for the strings fanning out as they go from the nut to the bridge. Also, you may find only the smaller pup will fit into the recess of the pickguard! (The two pups are different in terms of the amount of wire inside which will affect the signals produced).

Yes, The springs do go under the pups to keep them raised above the base of the route cavity.
