My lovely sister and brother gave me a JK-1 kit for my birthday and I'm really impressed with the quality.
I've re-wired, modded, and upgraded a couple of my guitars over the last few years but this is the first full DIY kit I'll be attempting from scratch.
I'm comfortable with the electronics but I've never painted a raw body before. The easiest method would be oil but I think the plain basswood body would look better with a poly or nitro finish - both of which I have no experience in applying. I'd also be relying on spray cans.
Anyhoo, I'm more interested in getting the set up done properly than the aesthetics. This is also the first 'fresh' neck and frets I'll be working with so I'll be splurging on some fret leveling tools and a straight edge. Being a metal style guitar, I'll be aiming for smooth and fast playability.
I'll be taking my time with this one so I can get it right (and also because I'm working with limited tools).
