    DSCM 1 New Build, ColinS

I was so pleased with the last kit I bought, a single coil mahogany body electric (30 coats of Tru Oil, the finish quick to apply and fabulous result) that Ive started a Les Paul-like twin humbucker guitar.

See how that goes. I was pleased to see it had a two piece Tune O Matic style bridge , the previous guitar had a one piece bridge which I feel may reduce the life of the strings.

I have bought Grover tuners. I dont know if the investment was neccessary (and I suspect it might not be) but.....

I was dissapointed to see that there was no backing plate for the bolt on neck. The previous kit had one and Pit Bull's "how to" video shows one being used on anothet (tele?) style of guitar.

    Hi ColinS,
the DSCM-1 is a set neck kit which is glued into place - so as to be more LP style. So, no backing plate is used.
    PitBull Builds: FVB-4, LP-1SS, FBM-1, AG-2, TB-4, SSCM-1, TLA-1,TL-1TB, STA-1HT, DSCM-1 Truckster, ST-1, STA-1, MBM-1, MBM custom, GHR-1 (Resonator).

Scratch Builds: Pine Explorer, Axe Bass, Mr Scary, Scratchy Tele's.

The little voices in my head keep telling me "build more guitars"

Thanks you, Trevor I hadn't realised that. Ive put in the 4 screws. Next time I change strings I'll glue it .

Ive now finished the guitar, looks beautiful, plays well, good intoation and action.

Wish I tried the scratch plate before I screwed on the humbuckers, now Ive got to file 1.5 mm off a bit of the scratch plate.

Im a good enough solderer but not too experienced However it all worked well. However, If ever I were to build another I might run an earth bus of bare wire in the switch cavity. By the time youve lined the cavities with foil, earthed that , earthed all the pots etc there are a lot of messy little bits of wire that could possibly be more conveniently soldered to an earth bus rtaher than all connected to the pot tops.

Also, it may seem like heresy, but given I only play sitting next to my amp (which has a million tone. vol, distortion settings of its own) I really dont need any electonics other than the switch on the guitar body. Next time, Id just install pots for appearances sake and just wire in the switch, copper shielding, humbuckers and 1/4" socket, THat would save a day of soldering and checking and reduce the risk of errors.

I bought Grover tuners, tehy feel like a quality job and ease the process of restringing. Having said that the standard tuners I used on my previous build seem OK for the sort of un-energetic playing I do
