I resprayed a pick guard on an SV-1 kit a while back, it was pearloid white and I wanted it to be black, if you prep it well and use an appropriate paint it should work fine.
What kind of paint did you use on the pick guard? If they weren't so big, I'd just print one on the 3D printer.
