Yeah thats right. If you use any coloured timbermate the scratches show up ridiculously well, even if you use neutral timbermate but stain the scratches will pop with the stain.

You got it, I just concentrate on lightly sanding the scratched area to blend in.

I forgot to mention, after timbermate has dried for 24 hrs, I sand the bulk off with 240 and then fine sand with 320 or 360. again carefully. sometimes I will sand the bulk off then wait a day to come back to the sanding, the main reason is because the first day I'm being super careful so I usually don't take enough timbermate off, when I come back the second day in the sunlight I can see how much more I can take off with without going through.
