Love the concept, but what's impressing me most is that headstock. There are are only so many ways to cut a couple of wavy shapes into a bit of maple, but something about that particular shape really does it for me. Elegant and classic. Love it!

Thanks G-Axe! I originally cut it to a strat template, but didn't think it suited the pickguard art so fiddled about with my own and settled on this.

Have you seen the guitars with bodies that look like the millennium falcon? Not sure how practical they are but they look great.

That’s a nice clean headstock well done!

This build is getting close to done - hoping we can wrap it up by Christmas (pun intended).

The main man has been helping me put the tru oil on, and we're up to the 1200 wet sand. The neck is pretty much done, and we got a decal on the headstock (see terrible photo below).

Also managed to pick up a little 15W amp for $20, so he'll get that at Christmas. I figure he's probably too young to know if he is into guitars or not, but he won't know unless he tries, and this way we've had some fun building it and hopefully he at least ends up with fond memories

    Aaaaand, it's done

Finished this this morning, bar a bit of final set-up tonight while the kids are in bed.

The finish leaves a little to be desired, but there's only so much you can do when a five year old is helping. We did the back twice, and it's still not really flat lol. There is also a few dings on both sides, mostly from his sister trying to help and dropping things on it.

The stain on the back is quite nice - it looks black, but has a brown sheen when viewed side on.

He really loves it though, and has been asking me to teach him to play Taylor Swift's 'Shake it off' (his favourite song).I must admit I also quite enjoy playing it, and am pretty sold on the idea of getting one for myself...

He has already been seduced by the dark side.
