Ideally you want something like a 3/4 inch following bit with a 5/8” OD x 1/4” ID bearing on the end, that should give you the 1/16” or 1.6(ish)mm rebate you want. You might be able to go smaller than that if you can find the right bearings.

Yes I had to get my 11yo to remind me about the difference between radius measurements and diameters when doing the bearing size measurements, I think I have now got it from here 😀 Hopefully some of the suppliers have the one I need
Cheers Tony, I'll see how today's ringing around pans out, thanks for the offer.
Well I think I am sorted, mini bearings came through, got a bearing that looks to be the right size, I will do a test route on some scrap tomorrow and see if it is going to work, fingers crossed
Cool! Post up the results

Will do Frankie, I am envisioning that if I make the binding slightly proud of the guitar surface, it will act as a fence for the self levelling 2 part epoxy I am going to use on the top. That's how I see it happening in my head anyway, it could also end up an unmitigated disaster too 😄
Test routing a success! First pass and I think I have it spot on, binding site just proud of the top which was what I am after. I'll take a stiff drink and do it on the body later. Took a shot of the back of the body in sunlight after 2 coats of feast Watson wipe on poly in gloss, I am liking it.
Noice work HCT!
