No joke, I just spit out my mouthful of beer laughing when I read your post.

You're probably right! But I'm using my dang fret protector no matter what! I cut my finger while making it and dammit, it's gonna get used! LOL.

Also-- I forgot how cool your bass looks! Such a great build!

You could always place it flat side down on the rear of the body when you clamp the neck in place. That way it’s being used, and protecting the guitar, just not in the way you had envisaged.
