It'll take a long time to work on the finish, so I'll start on the neck as well. I've knocked off the plastic nut and straightened the fretboard ready for filing and dressing the frets.

For some reason when i look at the front shot there Swanny, I see a midnight blue graduated burst on those edges....not sure it would work but it looks sick in my minds eye at least!

I was thinking of a burst, but never thought of midnight blue... I can't imagine that!
I see most Gretsch's are a solid colour but I'm a sucker for showing the woodgrain.
