What I did today was putting a second coat of dye on the neck. I'll maybe buy some varnish with glitter to put on the neck and headstock for the finish. This will fix the dye.






I sand with some steel wool between the coats. I'll see tomorrow if I need to put one more.

I also decided to sand the body with the steel wool to really take off all the extra glitters, and see how it looks like after.
this was as well to take off the oil. I think I need some colorless varnish on the body to fix the glitters and dye permanently.
Apparently, I cannot ad some varnish on top of the oil, that's why I use the steel woom on the body.

So, here's what it looks like.

a little bit like a vintage/ F**ked up guitar paint. I always liked guitars with an old vintage look, but I never wanted to buy a "brand new scratch guitar" from a shop. I like it better to do it myself!!!

So, now, I ask myself if I should buy and try to put some colorless varnish on the body, or do I need to sand some more?

and second question is, to avoid all these problems I had with the body, is some varnish with glitters mixed with it would be a good solution? or should I just ad some glitters only on the headstock, and ad some colorless varnish (on top of the dye to fix it), on the back of the neck?

Maybe I should try all of these and we'll see how it ends up?

Seems like a similar issue I had with stamp ink.
That's why I sanded it back and used indian ink.

Only just caught up with this thread and a quick google search reveals that RIT dye is more suited to fabric and maybe that is where it has all started to go wrong for you.

As King Casey mentioned Stamp Pad ink is rubbish and presume the indian ink he used was for fountain pens? In my signature there is a Red J Bass that was done in a combination of fountain pen ink and watered down colortone cherry with more than 20 coats of Tru Oil all over.

If that finish is coming off now it will keep on going so maybe better to sand back and start again. For a glitter finish I would experiment with adding some into a small amount of the preferred top coat whether that be Tru Oil or another similar varnish or lacquer type product and shake it up so that the particles become suspended in the liquid about to be applied. No doubt it will feel gritty as it goes on but if used with an oil based finish that will help it stick and stay put. Once you have the glitter layer looking schmick time to revert to just a few thick clear top coats to help fill any dips and gaps in the surface and then gradually add a few more thinned top coats to bring up a smoother surface.

Just my 2c worth and yes a bit of a step backwards but worth it in the long run IMO.

so you can add some colortone on the Indian ink. that sounds good, but you have to try different mixture if you want to keep the cherry red color I presume. and I'm a colorblind, so I shouldn't try to do mixtures, it won't be good in the end.
Yesterday, I bought some glitter to mix with paint. I tried to mix it with the Rit dye, and did a trial on a piece of wood. I didn't like the result. I don't know, maybe I didn't shake enough or maybe I just need to use some paint with this.

that's why I lightly sand the body and want to try to add a varnish. it will maybe get the glitter and dye stuck in it . And if this is a fail, I'll surely have to start it all back from the beginning.

I started with the Rit dye, because I saw a guy on you tube using some black and later red Rit dye on his guitar build. the finish was with tru oil, and I really liked it. So I decided to try the same stuff.
I think my problem was with the acrylic glitter lacquer. this aerosol paint is maybe just good for party decorations.

i have read your thread i don't get what your trying to achieve with your finishing, i have seen guys on YouTube use the rit dye with good results, whats your theory with the glitter are you trying to dye it red and put a flake over the top then a oil over that? not sure that will work as you would need to suspend the flake in some sort of clear media. i think your going to end up with a bit of a mess i think id agree with Waz sand down and start again

Being colour blind adds another challenging element and suggest you have someone you trust help you choose the desired shade of ink that is closest to what you want to achieve. Mixing up a colour brew is difficult enough so an off the shelf product would be easier way to go. Glitter needs to be laid with a thickened product to have any chance of sticking therefore adding with ink won't work. Personally i would test with putting some glitter in small amount of Tru Oil, shake that up really good, and then apply to scrap timber to see how it works. My guess is that may do the job and leave a sealed base to continue working on for laying down top coats.

I used Ph. Martins Bombay India Ink from 'Riot' art & craft.
It's advertised as 'waterproof and lightfast'.

HI, everyone, and thanks again for your advices.

I tried some of them, and I tried some stuff that I had in a corner of my mind. it turns out to a really crappy situation where I really didn't know what to do next, except start it all over again!!

But first, I want to clarify a few things.

1-
Being colour blind is actually a challenging element!! I like this red cherry color, so I'll stick with it.
I asked my girlfriend a couple of times, if it's still stays red ,( and not turning pinkish), when I sanded the body just to be sure. as you can see on the pics, it's still red. i really can't try to mix different inks, it would be too difficult for me to have a good result.

2-
The finish I "TRY" to get, is something I don't even know if I can do it!
Basically, what I wanted was to see the wood grain out of a red guitar; kind of like the faded gibson finish, I love how it looks like.
but I also want some glitter on the guitar; so the guitar can shine when the light comes in the glitter, and when you turn it a bit, it's a faded. I never ever saw this anywhere, and I was just like, OK, I'll do it with this cool looking RD kit.
I got this in my mind for a while, I didn't, and still don't know how to do it. it's a kind of "free" experience to try to achieve this goal.

So, the more I move forward with this project, the more the guitar looks like a Vintage/Faded/Glam Guitar
That's something I like. but i've been through a lot of bad stuff
