    Fret problem

Ive been doing some fine tuning on my SG, shaving the nut, filing the slots and adjusting the neck.
Ive found that the buzz on a few strings about the 6-10 frets have gone with the neck adjustment, but i still have one problem.
The high E side of fret 7 still makes fret 8 buzz, its too low. And whats weird is that its ONLY on the high E, not even on string B. Its like the whole fret is dead straight except for where it goes under the high E string, then it drops. How do you fix this??

Any help will be greatly appreciated...

Have you used a rocker on the frets here (don't forget that you need the neck to be adjusted straight first)? Is the end of fret 7 too low, or is the end of fret 8 too high?

If the latter, then you should be able to reduce just the height of the end of fret 8.

If the former and it's just fret 7 that's too low, then you could either do a fret level and re-profile, which should certainly solve the issue, or you could try prising the end of the fret up slightly, and then using some superglue under it to hold it in place. If you do, don't forget to mask off the fretboard and neck in that area. You may then need to level the fret end slightly.

Thanks for replying Simon, yes ive done a fret level, and every fret is ok, fret 8 and 6 are fine so are low E , A, D, G and B on the 7th fret but not the high E it buzzes.
Its almost like that small area on the fret has had a knock on something and bent it slightly.
So ill try lifting it slightly and glueing, cheers

Btw.. if that doesnt work is it easy to replace a fret?

It helps having some of the right tools - like fret removal pincers with the end ground away flat so that the blades can lie flat against the fretboard. Obviously something to cut the new fret to roughly the right size, a soft-headed hammer to tap the fret in, then again some flat-bladed pincers or cutters to ship the fret ends close to the neck. Then some files to smooth the ends off, plus the usual fret sanding and polishing materials.

Also heating up the fret with a soldering iron first can help remove the fret in case glue has been used to keep it in place. See the first part of this video.

Over he last few years my pickguard has faded badly and is now gold which looks terrible.

So one of my original mistakes, another tiger pickguard, which i had ditched , was repurposed for my new design. After awhile i hated my pickguard design and was dying to change it. Ive shortened it and am happy with it. I just have a few body repairs to do where the screws go.
