    Rob's LP-1S

    So ... the young men in my family are starting to put their orders in for birthday and Christmas gift ideas ...
    What better gift than a nice new guitar ... and helps feed my habit, without having to worry the wife about where to store the thing after it's finished!

    I've always wanted an LP and thought I'd give an LP-1S a shot ... I've really liked the others that I've seen finished on this forum.
    I discussed it with my son, who agreed on the choice, and we ordered the kit and got a few mods to make it the way that we wanted ...

    The plan is to use DT Black Stump on the body and neck, and DT colourless with a bit of black in it for the front.
    I've also added an EMG Zakk Wylde 81/85 pickup set and Grover tuners.

    Really happy with the veneer on the body too ...

    Headstock

    Wasn't sure exactly what shape to use on the headstock ...
    ... eventually took the "safe" option and went for something traditional.

    I have to say that, I think, having a Dremmel made the job easier than trying to do it with hand tools, which is what I originally considered doing ...

    no ... these are passive pickups ... less stuffing around with battery boxes etc. ... this one is going to be all about the finish.
    Hopefully I'll do it justice!
    I think I've been lucky with this one, 'cause I haven't had the issue with glue spots that others seem to have suffered from.
    I was VERY careful not to sand the top too much ...

    Looks great Rob. These spalts look best either natural or Coolangatta Gold as any darker seems to take over too much.

    Just about to do a battery box on the MMB4 and will need to start that job early in the day when fresh so I don't stuff things up.
