I went in hard with the Karijini Red, then sanded that right back after a day or so, then added an orange dye to the mix. Rit I think. I saw heaps of guitars with the black coat done first, but my other guitars are a bit on the dark side, so wanted to change it up with something bright, so decided to use the red as my base. Not sure about the longevity on the Rit, but I went over it about four times with the dye. I sanded it back twice in between. I'm now into my second top coat of the finishing oil. I'll go over it one or two more times, maybe even three or until the bottle runs out, then I'll let it set for a couple of weeks I reckon. In that time, I'll keep going over the back with the Tru-Oil and give it a good seal.
I've given the neck three or four coats on the TO as well, but want it to be as raw as possible while still protected.
