That's a great idea! Especially since I put more orange in the mix! The grain really pops now and I am pretty in love with it as it is! I don't want to ruin it ...

Progress mock build. Colours are really popping. Still deciding on the artwork. Am working on concepts for it now ...

Showing a bit of the back. Couldn't bring myself to put a finish on the wood. The grain looks too cool to cover. I did black out the headstock, but still letting the grain show through. I love my build so far!

I went in hard with the Karijini Red, then sanded that right back after a day or so, then added an orange dye to the mix. Rit I think. I saw heaps of guitars with the black coat done first, but my other guitars are a bit on the dark side, so wanted to change it up with something bright, so decided to use the red as my base. Not sure about the longevity on the Rit, but I went over it about four times with the dye. I sanded it back twice in between. I'm now into my second top coat of the finishing oil. I'll go over it one or two more times, maybe even three or until the bottle runs out, then I'll let it set for a couple of weeks I reckon. In that time, I'll keep going over the back with the Tru-Oil and give it a good seal.

I've given the neck three or four coats on the TO as well, but want it to be as raw as possible while still protected.

Bro that is awesome. The red orange combo is popping the flame nicely. Really nice and clean job there mate, well done.

Hand crafting guitars, because Death Rays are expensive.

What do you guys reckon about the finishing stage? I've done four coats of the Dingotone finishing oil, and now have to let it set. Do I need to give it a buff and polish once its rested for a couple of weeks? What kind of polish does everyone recommend if I do give it a polish? Can I polish over the top of the oil?

Hi Darryl, Andy40 seems to be the best one to answer your questions as he has had the best results with using DT.

From personal experience you need to leave it sit for a number of weeks to fully cure before attempting any final polishing. Good to see no humidity related issues on yours as that is a bit of a curse in sub tropical parts on this side of the country.

When you get around to doing the final polish your choices will be determined by how shiny you want it. Not so shiny.....DT Wax may be the answer but be prepared for a full on workout buffing that stuff up to some sort of a shine.

These products can be bought at Super Cheap and do a really good job after lots of wet sanding, particularly with Acrylic & Tru Oil top coats....
