Gibson used to use a Holly veneer for their headstocks.

    Looking good, Thijs.

Hopefully I can glue the neck in this weekend too.

    Thanks, Simon!
I actually didn’t do any research on what Gibson uses for their headstocks. I just looked for something with a solid black color that was easy to come by.
It also crossed my mind to glue on a piece of dark veneer, like ebony or wenge. Maybe for a next build.

Haha! True! But at the time I didn’t know this.
Allthough it would be nice to have the exact same thing on it as Gibson uses, with logos and all.

Well now! Time for another update.
Everything is polished. Overall I'm very happy on how it turned out.*

Only thing I maybe would like to see different is the wood of the neck. The neck is made of multiple parts, & it would be nicer if the parts would match color-wise. I have tried to cover it a little by spraying some stain over the lighter piece, but it stays visible.
    (*note the thumbs up*)

The laminate I glued on the headstock has a bit of a gritty surface. I'm still busy polishing it to get a smooth surface.
Right now I'm sanding with 400 grid & water. Next step will be 1000, then 3000, & so on. And then polishing.

    To be continued...
Next step will be finishing polishing the headstock & the magic moment of glueing the neck to the body.

That is some fine finishing work you've done there. I'm jealous of the mirror like gloss you've achieved! Thumbs up indeed.
